Exploring nano-experimental mechanics technologies and size effect phenomena

We focus on experimentally visualizing the mechanical behavior of materials ranging in size from micro- to nano- to several-atom-size, and quantitatively understanding phenomena specific to ultra-small materials. We independently develop an outstanding mechanical experiment platform, and quantitatively measure mechanical and electrical properties while observing deformation and fracture of ultra-small test specimens in situ using an electron microscope. The information obtained will contribute to the development of both academia and industry, for example, by experimentally identifying the limit size for continuum application and proposing novel functional devices.
