Investigating Battery Materials with Advanced Synchrotron Techniques to Enhance Performance

My research focuses on improving electrode catalysts for fuel cells and secondary metal-air batteries. Building on this work, I plan to use the NanoTerasu synchrotron facility to study the structure and degradation mechanisms of new battery materials. Conventional techniques often cannot capture dynamic changes in morphology, surface degradation, or elemental distribution during operation. Synchrotron-based measurements allow precise visualization of elemental distributions, surface states, and nanoscale structural changes. These studies will help identify the causes of performance degredation and support the development of high-performance, long-lasting battery materials.
