Towards New Scientific Horizons with Synchrotron Radiation
Program Theme
This program aims to explore the world–leading next–generation synchrotron radiation measurement technologies and the scientific innovations they enable, while promoting the integration of advanced measurement techniques with information science to address societal challenges. In particular, the program will comprehensively promote international collaboration on next–generation synchrotron technologies, interdisciplinary integration, and the development of young researchers, with a focus on the realization of a science park centered on the 3 GeV high–brilliance synchrotron radiation facility “NanoTerasu” constructed on the Tohoku University campus.
As the saying goes, “Measurement is the foundation of science.” Synchrotron radiation measurement enables the visualization of the microstructure and chemical states of materials with extremely high precision. Further innovation is anticipated through improvements in spatial, temporal, and energy resolution, as well as integration with data science, leading to breakthroughs in a wide range of fields including energy, materials development, and medicine.
Through collaboration with synchrotron facilities both in Japan and abroad, the program will provide a global forum for discussing next–generation synchrotron measurement technologies via symposia, workshops, and public lectures, while disseminating cutting–edge research from Tohoku University to the world.
